FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On March 6, The Women’s Luncheon took place at The Falls in Greenport
Greenport, NY — March 6, 2026
The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce proudly hosted its annual Women’s Luncheon on Friday, March 6, at The Falls in Greenport, bringing together women from across the community to celebrate Women’s History Month and recognize the incredible contributions women make throughout Columbia County. The event was filled with inspiration, connection, and appreciation for the many leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and community champions who continue to shape our region.
This year’s keynote speaker, Benita Zahn, delivered an engaging and thoughtful presentation that resonated deeply with attendees. A nationally certified Health and Wellness Coach at Capital Cardiology Associates, Benita spent more than four decades as an award-winning health reporter and news anchor at WNYT in Albany, where she informed the public on topics ranging from wellness and nutrition to medical breakthroughs and healthy aging. Beyond broadcasting, Benita is an accomplished writer, podcast host, and public speaker who continues to educate and empower others through her work. With a Master’s and Doctorate in Bioethics from Albany Medical College and numerous prestigious awards including a New York Emmy, Benita brought both expertise and authenticity to the stage, encouraging attendees to prioritize wellbeing and embrace the power of knowledge, communication, and community.
The luncheon was made even more special by the heartfelt remarks from Dr. Irma Waldo, a remarkable 101-year-old physician whose life of service stands as an extraordinary example of dedication and perseverance. Beginning her medical career in the early 1950s, at a time when very few women practiced medicine. Dr. Waldo became a cornerstone of healthcare in the region. She served communities throughout Columbia and Greene Counties for more than 60 years, helping to found Twin County Recovery Services and playing a vital role in the development of hospice care locally. From serving as a school physician and medical director to volunteering her time teaching, mentoring, and supporting countless community organizations, Dr. Waldo’s legacy reflects a lifetime devoted to caring for others.
Barbara Klassen, Betsy Braley, and Martha Lane were presented with awards for their years of dedication to the Chamber of Commerce and the greater community, and also presented with on Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Joshua Riley’s office.
The Chamber extends sincere gratitude to the generous sponsors who helped make this meaningful event possible, including Sunmark Credit Union, Mid-Hudson Fiber, Pioneer Bank, Harring Properties, Arica’s Insurance, Morgan Linens, FlowerKraut, and Photo Art by Ken Bovat. A special thank you also goes to Georgia Ray’s Country Kitchen for providing the delicious meal that everyone enjoyed while celebrating the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women in our community.
