Fall Pollinator Walk & Workshop on Saturday, September 11, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Explore Olana’s artist-designed landscape through the perspective of pollinators! Learn about how honeybees and humans can prepare for cold and flu season through a guided outdoor walk and workshop. During this program, beekeepers Chris and Lisa Layman will lead a guided outdoor walk and a short demo about making honey throat spray. Chris and Lisa run Fox Farm Apiary, a honeybee rescue and sanctuary in the Hudson Valley. In partnership with Olana, Fox Farm maintains an apiary onsite at Olana’s farm complex. This program covers approximately 1/4 mile and will be conducted outside.

Kinderhook Reformed Church will hold a 9/11 Service of Remembrance on Saturday 9/11/21,at the  the Kinderhook Reformed Church , 21 Broad St., Kinderhook. It will be a solemn prayer and memorial service to remember the events of 9/11/01.  Readers will retrace the timeline for each plane, from take off to final moments. For each plane’s final moment there will be prayer and the church bells will ring 20 times.  The service will start at 7:50 am and end at 10:15am.   All are welcome.  This is an indoor event, and we be following CDC mask guidelines.  For information call 518-758-6401 or www.kinderhookreformedchurch.com.

The Livingstons and Their Community in the Revolutionary War on Sunday, September 12, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Join one of Clermont’s interpreters for a walk-and-talk tour of Clermont’s grounds. The tour will discuss the important role Clermont and the Livingston family played during the American Revolution, culminating in the British army assault on Clermont in 1777. Hear stories of the residents of the manor—the Livingston family, the enslaved people, local Palatine tenants and free holders. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

Please note: Unvaccinated visitors should wear a face covering when unable to maintain social distance outdoors.  There is no charge for the event, but visitors must register in advance at https://www.friendsofclermont.org/events.  Event is Free

The Columbia Memorial Health Foundation is hosting two special events in September to benefit Columbia Memorial Hospital. Here is the information for you to put on your event calendar.
 
The 25th Annual “Chip in for Columbia Memorial Golf Tournament” is taking place on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Columbia Golf and Country Club, 295 Route 217, Claverack NY 12513. GRAMMY award-winning music historian Ashley Kahn, author of A Love Supreme: The Story of John Coltrane’s Signature Album and other popular books, delivers a presentation focusing on the lives and music of John and Alice Coltrane. Balancing musical insight with fascinating stories, Kahn will bring their careers into a modern-day perspective—discussing the musical influences and spiritual devotion they shared, even as their music proved so influential, enduring, and vastly different.

This FREE talk kicks off A Love Supreme: Celebrating the Legacy of Alice & John Coltrane, a concert series honoring the enduring vision of two artists whose work, love, and influence symbolize artistic achievement and Black excellence. The series features three distinct performances by artists at the forefront of the contemporary jazz scene: Brandee Younger Trio (September 18), Orrin Evans Trio (October 16) and JD Allen Trio (November 20). Spencertown Academy offers “Putting Your Garden to Bed” on Sunday, September 12, 11:00am
A Lecture with Donna Peterson at Spencertown Park Pavilion.  Tickets $10. Registration required.
Donna Peterson, a Horticulture Educator and Certified Master Gardener with Cornell Cooperative Extension since 1994, tells us how to get a jump on next year’s garden by putting this year’s flower and vegetable garden to bed the right way! Learn what to cut back (and when) and what to leave up (and why). Get the scoop on when to put down compost and mulch (and on what). Find out the best time to divide perennials and what to plant in the fall. Donna covers all the bases.

**********Equine Advocates Open Day on September 25-  Spend a few hours walking around and meeting their horses, ponies, donkeys and mules, most of whom were rescued from abuse, neglect  and/or slaughter.   All are now happily enjoying their life at the sanctuary.  Please feel free to picnic a their pond and enjoy one of the most beautiful and serene spots at the sanctuary.  Hours of Open Day are 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.  For more detailed information visit https://www.equineadvocates.org/.

Ipsa Dixit, composed by Kate Soper and directed by Ashley Tata, is a theatrical chamber opera for soprano, flute, violin, and percussion that blends monodrama, Greek theater, and screwball comedy to skewer the treachery of language and question the  authenticity of artistic expression. Called “a twenty-first century masterpiece” (The New Yorker), Ipsa Dixit will close Modern Opera Fest on September 3–4.

Galmae, the street artist Juhyung Lee, who through the medium of C’est pas là, c’est par là (It’s not here, it’s over here) transforms a crowd of spectators into a problem-solving collective. September 4–6
