Wetland Ecology on Thursday, January 16th, 2014 at 6:30pm at the Columbia Land Conservancy Office located at 49 Main Street, Chatham, NY. This presentation by Casey Tompkins, wetland biologist and owner of Tompkins Ecological Group, will introduce you to Wetland Ecology: its unique features, diverse inhabitants, and its crucial role in the greater web of life we call “ecosystem.” The program will include a slide show and will allow plenty of time for discussion, so bring a friend and all the questions you’ve been meaning to ask about this rich and beautiful natural environment. Swear and Shake
On Sunday, January 19 at 8:00pm at Helsinki Hudson, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson will present Swear and Shake. Brooklyn-based neo-folk outfit Swear and Shake brings its hard-charging indie-folk to Helsinki Hudson. The band may remind some listeners of 10,000 Maniacs, another folk-rock group with roots in upstate New York. Art Exploration for Toddlers
The Hudson Opera House on Wednesdays, 10:00 – 11:00 am, January 22 – April 9, 2014 is offering a Workshop: Art Exploration for Toddlers. Free for ages 18 months to 3 years caregivers. A visual arts workshop taught by artist Alison Fox. Children create paintings, drawings, collages, prints, murals and sculpture while exploring various media and techniques.
On Saturday, January 25, Bindlestiff Family Cirkus Winter Cabaret will perform at 9:00 pm at Helsinki Hudson, 405 Columbia Street, Hudson. Hudson’s own Bindlestiff Family Cirkus continues its wintertime tradition of hosting a monthly cabaret, featuring a variety of circus, theater, comedy and musical entertainers. These adult only shows will feature a new lineup, with acts including trapeze, contortion, acrobatic balance, sword swallowing, juggling, physical comedy, and oddball novelty turns. Adults only. Skiing and Snowboarding at Catamount
Catamount Ski Area continues snow making on several trails across the mountain. They have 25 trails open as of today, with more opening throughout the week. Don’t forget that they have night skiing on Wednesday, Friday & Saturday

Winter Art Camp at Art Omi
On February 18, 19 & 20 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Art Omi is offering a Winter Art Camp is a great cure for cabin fever! This three-day program features a variety of creative adventures fro kids ages 5 – 12. Daily activities include a 2D and 3D art project, sledding, exploration of The Fields sculpture park, storytelling and play. United Way Catfishing and Baseball Tickets
The United Way of Columbia and Greene Counties announced this week that early registration for the 4th Annual Leo Lasher Catfish Derby is now open. Again this year registration is $15.00 per fisherman and again first prize for the longest catfish of the day is $500.00 cash on the spot with more prizes for children, teens and adults. The event will be held on July 19th 2014 at Dutchman’s Landing and hosted by Riverview Marine Services at the Point in Catskill, NY. The Lasher family is the Name Sponsor and has named the event after Leo Lasher who was an avid fisherman and taught family and friends the joy of fishing. Lasher family friend Christopher Betke of Coughlin Betke LLP has also donated two box seat tickets in Fenway Park to a Friday night regular season game of the Boston Red Sox. The tickets will be awarded to an early registrant between January 1st and March 31st, 2014.
