The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is turning 150 in 202

The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is turning 150 in 2024! However, the lighthouse faces an imminent threat because of increasing commercial ship traffic and resulting from ongoing dredging by the US Army Corps of Engineers, which aims to accommodate larger, wider, and deeper ships in the river. To safeguard this iconic landmark and ensure its preservation for generations to come, fundraising efforts are in full swing at the federal, state, and local levels. While we celebrate the first 150 years of this magnificent place, we must remain committed to securing its future. Your support and involvement are crucial in this endeavor.

Throughout 2024, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse will host a series of events, activities, and initiatives to commemorate its 150th year that promise to be a testament to the spirit of unity and community that defines the Hudson Valley. These events will not only highlight the lighthouse's rich history but also raise awareness about the importance of preserving this vital piece of our cultural and maritime heritage.

Join us in celebrating the legacy of the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse, a beacon of our shared history and a symbol of our dedication to preserving the beauty and heritage of the Hudson River.

This milestone celebration is made possible through the collaborative efforts of several esteemed partner organizations, including the Village of Athens, City of Hudson, Athens Cultural Center, Hudson Hall, Hudson Business Coalition, the Greene and Columbia County Chambers of Commerce, the Hudson City Central School
District, Columbia-Greene Community College, the Coxsackie-Athens Central School District, the Catskill School District, CREATE Council on the Arts, The Stewart House, and Hudson-Ferry Company.
